MESSAGE
FROM THE PRESIDENT -- SUSAN FANTI:
Dear Members:
I would like to welcome all the new members I have seen at recent meetings
and thank everyone for the encouragement I have received since taking office in
January. We are still working on the best order for the meetings, trying to
balance the member’s desire for a social gathering with an educational program.
If you have any suggestions or comments, please address them to Karl, Kevin,
Michael or myself at any of the meetings.
There are two things I would like to see happen going forward. The first is to
have three member presentations per year, taking advantage of the wide range of
knowledge and experience within our own group. The format of the presentation,
lecture, roundtable or discussion forum, would be members’ choice. The first of
these for this year is scheduled for July as a discussion forum. The topic will
be “The Pros and Cons of Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and Other Vehicles from an
Investors Point of View”. At the June meeting, a signup sheet will be passed
around. I hope we will be able to count on at least one member to sign up for
each category and share their experiences, both good and bad. This type of
meeting could be held at an outside location since there would most likely be no
need for audio-visual equipment. If you cannot attend the June meeting and would
like to contribute to the July discussion, please contact me.
I would also like to establish a program committee, which under the guidance of
the officers, would be responsible for choosing the topics for the meetings and
arranging for speakers. I feel that having a group of people would allow us to
suitably broaden our range of presentations and give more members an opportunity
to be actively involved in the meetings. If you would be interested in this
opportunity, please see me at any meeting.
Thanks to all who are completing the speaker evaluation forms. It lets us know
how well the speaker and topic were received. I appreciate the suggestions that
have come in on the forms for topics for future meetings. These have provided
valuable information on member interests. We will continue to change the
questions at the bottom to gauge member interest in various topics. Please turn
in your completed evaluation at the end of the meeting.
The response to the question posed at the last meeting on interest in a subgroup
focusing on computerized investing indicated that, indeed, there would be enough
people to form such a group. Kevin Quelet will be leading this initiative, so
please see him at any meeting. Since this would be a new endeavor for the
chapter, all of the logistics still need to be addressed. Several members who
expressed interest have experience with the Washington Chapter CI/SIP-SIG and I
am sure their knowledge of operations will greatly expedite the process.
I look forward to the continued growth of our chapter. With a membership that
actively participates, I know this is possible.
Sincerely,
Susan Fanti
