PRESENTATION TOPIC:
Locally: Why Location DOES matter.

SPEAKER:
Bernie Kohn
Baltimore Sun Columnist

Bernie Kohn has been assistant managing editor for business news at the Baltimore Sun since 2004. He previously served as an assistant financial editor at The Washington Post and in various editing and writing positions at newspapers in Tampa, Charlotte and Pittsburgh. He is the vice president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) and will become president of the 3,500-member professional organization next May. He conceived and co-edited the series on Baltimore’s ground rent system that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize this year and led to a rewrite of Maryland’s archaic property-ownership laws. He has been a speaker at seminars at the Knight Center for Specialized Journalism, the American Press Institute and the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. Kohn is a 1982 graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and lives in Rockville, Md., with his wife Lynette, an elementary school teacher, and two sons.

ATTEND THIS MEETING TO LEARN:

Be part of a discussion about Maryland companies big and small, the Maryland economy in general, and why smart investors in the Baltimore area can have some special advantages by investing locally.

What you'll learn? Information you can get from local sources that you can't get elsewhere. A little knowledge about companies you may only know from listings in our paper. And maybe a little bit about the Sun and what I do.
